An Impossible Dream
2023 Vintage

The 2023 vintage marked an expansion of Crofamiul Wines. Not only was it our third vintage, but it saw an expansion of varieties away from pure Margaret River cabernets. This year a Shiraz from the Great Southern region was added to the lineup.

The syndicate purchased a new dedicated Shiraz barrel, with both wines being expertly blended by Marius Mencel of Purple Feet. With our new barrel, and a mixture of new and old barrels from ours and other syndicates, both wines were matured in a harmonious 25/75 new/old oak blend.

A bit of background trivia - our barrels are 100% French oak, sourced from either Tonnellerie Meyrieux or Tonnellerie Claude Gillet. Both have histories going back decades (which I guess in French wine-making terms is fairly recent!).

Here's a few details of both wines ...

2023 Cabernet

Most of the fruit was sourced from the vineyard in the lower Wilyabrup area, the same as the '22 vintage. To this was added approximately 10% from the northern Wilyabrup area (the '21 vintage), and the final product was blended with around 5% cabernet franc to round it out.

The fruit was harvested on Saturday 22nd April 2023.

Crofamiul Wines; nothing formulaic about them.
